Bare feet are vulnerable in the summer heat!
Here are a few tips on how to help prevent foot issues during the summer months:
-
Try to limit walking barefoot as much as possible- not only does it expose your feet to sunburn, but it puts your feet at risk for athlete’s foot, plantar warts, injury, infection and more.
-
To decrease your chances of contracting a bacterial infection, be sure to wear some sort of shoe around the locker room or pool deck, to the beach, in the bathroom, etc.
-
Apply sunscreen to your feet, and don't forget to reapply after you’ve been in the water!
-
Drink plenty of water. This will not only help to keep you hydrated throughout the hot summer day but will also help minimize foot swelling caused by the heat.
-
Different activities require different types of footwear, so be sure to keep an extra pair of sneakers or tennis shoes with you. Additionally, if your shoes get wet, be sure to completely dry them before wearing them again to prevent the growth of bacteria or fungus.
